What does the word
'Vedanta' mean?
The word Vedanta is
dissected as Veda + Anta. Veda are the ancient
Hindu book of wisdom, and Anta means the
culmination, the end.
Vedanta thus stands
for the ultimate philosophical message of Vedas. The Upanishads
(part of Vedas), being the source of this divine
vision, are also called as Vedanta.

What is the
message of Vedanta?
Vedanta reveals
that basically 'you' are not a limited fellow, but
the timeless, infinite, non-dual & blissful
divinity (Brahman), and so is everyone else. Every individual
can & should realize that 'I am That'. This
realization alone is moksha - real freedom. Knowledge alone redeems
thunder the great rishis. Rishis perfected this
science of Self-Knowledge almost to an art form.

Who were & are the
well-known teachers
of Advaita Vedanta?
Vedas were revealed
by God himself in the very beginning of creation.
He revealed the vision of Vedas to various Rishis
- the seer's. These seer's passed this great
knowledge to their disciples, and thus from
thousands of years this knowledge has been flowing
down to us. Some of the well-known teachers of
Vedanta were: Bhagwan Sri Adi Sankaracharya, Sri
Sureshwaracharya, Sri Ananda Giri, Sri Vidyaranya
Swami, etc. Bhagwan Sri Krishna and Sri Rama lived
Vedanta alone.
In the modern times
Swami Vivekananda, Swami Tapovanam, Swami
Chinmayananda, Swami Dayananda (Arsha Vidya), etc dedicated their
lives to teach Vedanta to the world. Swami
Atmanandaji, the founder of Vedanta Mission, is a
representative of this ancient tradition. He was
initiated into the sanyas ashram personally by Param Poojya Swami
Chinmayanandaji.
