The Ninth Chapter of Gita is called ‘Rajvidya-Rajguhya
Yoga’. There are in all 34 shlokas in this chapter.
In the beginning of the chapter Lord Krishna resolves
to reveal to Arjuna that most secret & profound knowledge which is
highest & awakes a person to a state of greatest fulfillment. Such a journey
begins with a profound faith in the existence of such divinity & state.
Faith is that power because of which we come to see that which believed in.
Lord says that whoever doesn’t starts with this belief never gets the
prasad of this vidya.
He thereafter reveals that HE pervades this entire
perceptible world by his unmanifest essence. He says that all that exists
in the world is dependent on this essence alone for its existence, but this
avyakta (unmanifest) essence is not dependent on anything for its own
existence. This entire world is comparable to a dream. If you see it, then
it is very much there. And when it is there, then just realize that there
is something eternal, which holds & sustains all this. However, no
dream world exists independently of any dreamer, so one should clearly
realize that ultimately it is not there. That is why we call it a dream. So
when we see from the point of view of the world then Lord by his unmanifest
essence hold & sustains all this, and from the point of view of the
ultimate truth this world is not there at all. This is what has to be
understood about the world & God. Lord says that look at my glory. From
one angle you see all this, and from another angle it is not there at all.
It is indeed like a magician presenting a show.
This ephemeral creation too is brought about by this
inexplicable divine power of Lord called Maya or Prakriti. Merely in the
presence of Lord it dances and presents all this in front of us. So God
should be seen as that who pervades all, exists independently of all, who
not only creates all with his Maya shakti, but also sustains & holds
all. Merely by his presence the creation of names & forms take place.
Whoever sees HIM in this way alone sees him properly; the deluded ones
alone take the Lord merely as a super-human entity endowed with a human
form. Such people always remain unfulfilled, because they never see that
which is infinite & limitless. The Mahatmas see Lord in this way alone
and therefore attain him. Journey for the attainment of the infinite has to
obviously begin with the belief in the existence of infinite.
Belief in the existence of such divinity is the basis
of the practices of devotion. We let this thing go down in our hearts. We
think about it, revere it, and talk about it, thus directing all our
attention towards it. They offer all what they have for this divinity.
Whatever we truly revere we attain that alone. Such devotees alone get
fully prepared & disposed to realize God. Such a belief accompanied
with such a reverence brings about wonders. This washes away sins and
prepares even a hardcore sinner into a saint. Lord Krishna finally
concludes the chapter by saying that right knowledge and then true devotion
paves the path for the realization of this awakening & experience.
Thus ends the ninth chapter of Bhagwad Gita.
